Choose competitive intelligence software when you already have someone who can configure sources, filter alerts and turn them into decisions. Choose a service when leadership needs a finished, sourced reading every week and there is no established intelligence team to operate another platform.
| Question | Software | Service |
|---|---|---|
| Who configures it? | Your team | The provider, from your priorities |
| Who reads the output? | Your analyst | Included in the weekly brief |
| Time to first value | Usually weeks of setup | First edition within 48 hours of kickoff |
| Best fit | An established intelligence function | A leadership team without one |
Software is the better choice when a dedicated analyst needs broad search, collaboration, archives and flexible dashboards every day. It gives that person control and scale.
A service is the better choice when the scarce resource is judgement and attention. The output is already prioritised, sourced and written for the leadership team rather than waiting in another dashboard.
